Strange World Is Disney's Biggest Step Toward Inclusivity

The following contains spoilers for Strange World, now in theaters.

Over the years, Disney has made steps toward diversity, although some of them have reach off a bit timid, as if the company is just trying to tick boxes. While the shows and movies being made have been more cosmopolitan, as the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Simu Liu recently noted, there's still more that could be done in terms of advocacy, especially on the LGBTQ front. Lightyear's queer arc was vastly diminished, for example, not to mention Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker had a very brief homosexual kiss that wasn't genuine at all. Throw in Josh Gad's LeFou in Beauty and the Beast and Tessa Thompson's Valkyrie entity given the bare minimum in expressing themselves, it does get a petite tiring at times.

Admittedly, Eternals -- through Phastos and his husband -- is a positive step, but it still feels like Disney's afraid or pandering at times, which might explain why StrangeWorld has been sent out to quietly die with minimal promotion. That's because this clip makes huge leaps in terms of

‘Strange World’ flops as Disney’s woke LGBTQ agenda continues to decimate its bottom line

Disney’s much-hyped animated film “Strange World,” featuring an openly-gay teen and peppered throughout with environmentalist sermonizing, failed spectacularly at the box office over the Thanksgiving holiday, representing one of the worst opening weekends ever recorded for the entertainment giant.

The movie highlights that Disney’s insistence on pushing a leftist agenda is hurting both the public persona of the “family-friendly” entertainment leader and the bottom line of the company, with stocks dropping 35% over the past year.

The film debuted well below its expected earnings of $30 to $40 million. The film’s inaugural ticket sales brought in a paltry $11.9 million and just $18.6 million from its Wednesday debut through Sunday — a time period that has historically seen families flock to the theaters for Disney films that signaled the start of the winter holiday season.

Five months before audiences snubbed “Strange World,” they showed an equal lack of enthusiasm for Disney’s “Lightyear,”  which included a homosexual woman kiss la

The latest Disney animated movie, Strange World, includes another big step forward for the studio in terms of LGBTQ+ representation. Here's everything you need to know:

What LGBTQ+ representation is there in 'Strange World'?

Strange World, which hits theaters on Nov. 23, features a character who has been described as the first gay lead of a Disney animated movie.

The film tells the story of three generations, and it's primarily centered around Searcher Clade (Jake Gyllenhaal), a farmer and the son of explorer, Jaeger Clade (Dennis Quaid). Searcher's own son is Ethan Clade (Jaboukie Young-White), who is clearly established as gay. A scene preliminary in the film shows Ethan nervous around his crush, a boy named Diazo, whom he flirts with before his father comes in and embarrasses him. "Is this him?" Searcher asks before noting that Ethan "talks about you all the time."

Disney’s pro-LGBT ‘Strange World’ projected to lose $100M after Thanksgiving debut

By Ian M. Giatti, Christian Post Reporter

The latest Disney animated movie with a pro-LGBT subplot fell short of box office expectations over the Thanksgiving holiday, even as another of its Christmas offerings drew controversy for a scene involving kids inadvertently thanking Satan.

"Strange World," a sci-fi comedy about a family of explorers on a mission to preserve the planet from a mysterious ecological crisis, earned less than $19 million against its $180 million budget, Variety reported, citing box office experts who estimate the film could lose at least $100 million in its theatrical run as it needs to gross $360 million to break even.

The animated feature includes a subplot about a gay 16-year-old boy named Ethan — voiced by comedian Jaboukie Young-White — who is romantically attracted to another boy. Ethan marks the first openly gay ethics in a Disney motion picture, according to Yahoo News.

Disney Finally Has A Queer Animated Clip But There's No Marketing For It

Strange World, the latest film from Walt Disney Animation Studios, has underwhelmed at the box office, scraping in only $800,000 in preview screenings ahead of its opening weekend. That isn’t wonderful for most blockbusters, let alone Disney’s major Thanksgiving let go. It is too soon to phone it a flop, and conversation around the story and characters has started to increase after a cynical promotional cycle, but right now things don’t look pretty, and I can’t aide but feel it could have easily been different.

I saw hardly any marketing for Strange Nature, and it likely would have passed me by if my job didn’t involve the coverage of major animated releases. The call is fairly generic, its premise doesn’t ignite much imagination, and hardly any advertisements have been thrown online to gauge interest. A few brief teasers have emerged on my TikTok feed, but none of them do an especially compelling employment of selling exactly what it’s all about. Disney could have framed it as a swashbuckling homage to classic adventure cinema propelled by a story of familial generations lear
