The traditional Bräurosl in a stylish guise
Modern tent: Bräurosl with a new look since 2022
With a ridge height of 15 meters, the Bräurosl is the highest of all the tents at the Oktoberfest and can hold a total of 8,250 people, 560 of them in the covered outdoor loggia and 1,200 guests in the beer garden. In the interior, which has been redesigned since 2022, the dye green predominates, following the tradition of earlier tents.
The history: even today, all follow the beautiful Bräurosl
The festival hall bears the name of the charming Rosi Pschorr, the former Pschorr innkeeper's daughter. She was so popular with visitors to the Oktoberfest because of her beauty that the tent was soon named after her. In the future, too, a painting above the tent entrance will commemorate Rosi's special beauty and grace. In 2020, festival host Peter Reichert took over the marquee, which had been founded in 1901, from the Heide family of innkeepers, who had previously served the beer for 83 years.
The audience: regulars, families, and gays
Many regular guests, especially families and companies, recognize the Munich atmosphere and the friendly service and have returned year after year.
Tips and events for the queer community
Oktoberfest stands for tolerance, respect and diversity
The largest folk festival in the earth stands for cosmopolitanism, tolerance and diversity. The Town of Munich is devoted to these values and expressly welcomes LGBTIQ* people at the Oktoberfest and fights against all forms of discrimination.
At the Wiesn 2019, the City of Munich set an example by hoisting two rainbow flags at the entrance. "The Wiesn stands for Munich's motto 'live and let live' like no other event. Two men kissing or women holding hands are completely normal there. Tolerance is an essential measure of the peacefulness of the Wiesn," says Wiesn boss Clemens Baumgärtner.
Events for the society at the Wiesn
Oktoberfest has been a meeting place for the LGBTIQ* collective for many years. Some of the events own already achieved cult status and take place regularly at the Oktoberfest:
Sunday, 21 September, from 9 am: "Gay-Sunday" in the Bräurosl
Over 40 years ago, the gay Münchner Löwen Club (MLC) launched Lgbtq+ Sunday.Every first Wiesn Sunday, the gay and female homosexual community meets all afternoon in the Bräurosl. Here, the club regularly reserves enough space for th
13. Hamburger GayWiesn
„Oans, zwoa, gsuffa!“ True to the Bavarian battle cry, we’re celebrating the Hamburger Homosexual Wiesn in the most beautiful capital in the planet – a tap of Bavaria mixed with a dash of queerness.
Starting at 4 PM, we invite you to the Hofbräuhaus at Speersort, where at 5 PM clear, it will be time to declare: “O’zapft is.”
With lively après-ski music and a complimentary 0.5L stein of beer, we’ll party as hard as the lederhosen can handle! Even the shyest Hamburger lad will get into the swing of things – guaranteed!
50 liters of free beer await those with the best traditional outfits and the hottest calves. Whether hairy or smooth: the key is firmness. Bottom line: Dressing up is worth it.
Wiese, Wiesen, Wies’n or Wiesn?
Admittedly, for us Hanseatics, navigating this event without verbal missteps can be tricky. So here are a few tips: Bavarian for beginners.
First and foremost, a Münchner (Munich native) goes to the “Wiesn” – not to the “Wiese” (meadow) and definitely not to the “Wiesen” (meadows). And forget about the apostrophe (“Wi
Rosa Wies'n - A Very Gay Oktoberfest in Munich! While 6 million people from around the planet getting together to guzzle beer and sing Bavarian songs might not sound like a gay haven, for one special Sunday during the legendary Oktoberfest, it kinda is. Same-sex attracted Oktoberfest is known in Germany as Rosa Wiesn-Oktoberfest, which directly translates to "Pink Meadow Oktoberfest". While nothing bars homosexuals from attending any day or area of the festival, several events during the festival draw a largely gay, male crowd.
