Why did jennifer coolidge thank the evil gays

This "White Lotus" star just earned another five-star review.

Jennifer Coolidge officially proved that Tanya McQuoid is eternal when she won the 2023 Emmy Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Drama Series category, beating out her costars Aubrey Plaza, Meghann Fahy, Sabrina Impacciatore and Simona Tabasco plus "The Crown" star Elizabeth Debicki, Rhea Seehorn of "Better Call Saul" and "Succession" actor J. Smith Cameron.

And her speech was one for the books.

"I still don't have the strength," Coolidge quipped while placing her trophy down on the stage as she did when she won an Emmy for her role in 2022. "I got the hang last year I talked to you, so I'm going to be so fast."

Shouting out author Mike White she added, "Thank you for giving me this opportunity to play this incredible traits. And he says I'm definitely dead so I'm going along with it."

On Jennifer Coolidge, The Alabaster Lotus, And Media's Bad Gays

Earlier this week, Jennifer Coolidge took home the Emmy for Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her role in The White Lotus as Tanya McQuoid. The category was absolutely stacked with talent, and I’m not going to litigate whether she was the right actress to win in this category nor if she was even the best actress on the show’s second season – every single one of those actresses did a great job and deserved their nominations. As usual, Coolidge gave one of her iconic, hilarious speeches, cracking the audience up from the moment she started speaking. But what caught my attention, and the moment that went viral, was when she said, “I wanna thank… all the evil gays”, to raucous applause.

This is, of course, a reference to her iconic line in the show’s second season, when she pleads with a man to save her from a group of murderous lesbian men after her funds, saying, “Please, these gays, they’re trying to murder me!” This is the line that spawned a thousand memes, with people replacing the word ‘gays’ with whatever tickles their fancy.

Two times a charm for Jennifer Coolidgewinning for Exceptional Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her performance as Tanya McQuoid on HBO’s The Ivory Lotusseason two. After nabbing the prize in 2023 for the first season, Coolidge reprised her role as eccentric resort guest Tanya and dug even deeper in the acclaimed show’s Sicilian-set sophomore installment.

Accepting the award from Lorraine Braccoand Michael Imperioli, she had to put down because she “didn’t contain the strength,” which drew laughter from the audience.

Keeping track of time, thanked director Mark White, and producer David Bernard, and then said, “I crave to thank all the Evil Gays!” A line that harkens back to a specific episode of the White Lotusseason that was memefied into pop-culture lexicon.

Somehow topping audience expectations, Coolidge expands her feeling range as Tanya while maintaining the character’s signature tragicomic neuroses. Whether...
