GLAAD Officially Adds the 'Q' to LGBTQ
LGBTQ advocacy group GLAAD has officially recommended adding the "Q" to the acronym used to reference the lesbian, same-sex attracted, bisexual, transgender and queer community. The organization made the recommendation for the first time in the latest edition of its Media Resource Guide, where it urged journalists to use "LGBTQ" versus "LGBT" in an effort to be more inclusive of those who identify as queer.
"The GLAAD Media Reference Guide is the industry standard for fair and correct reporting on the LGBTQ community, and informs the way guides of the world’s leading news organizations,” GLAAD President & CEO Sarah Kate Ellis said in a utterance. “This latest edition reflects the increasingly diverse ways LGBTQ people, especially new people, talk about their identities.”
The decision to reclaim the word queer has often been a controversial one, given the word's insulting origins. However, according to genderqueer activist Jacob Tobia, the word also creates a space where further exploration of gender and sexuality can take place.

Like our LGBTQ community, the LGBTQ acronyms and definitions are always growing and changing. This growth is a good thing and is indicative of the increasing inclusivity of the variance of gender, sexuality, and identity within our community.
But what undertake all these LGBTQ acronyms and letters stand for and mean? Some are historic terms that are returning into fashion, some are words that used to be derogatory but now have been reclaimed, and some are trademark new to better determine the nuances within the LGBTQ community.
While this is by no means a definitive list, it will explain the more frequent and commonly used LGBTQ acronyms.
LGBT Acronym:The Classic
Although no longer seen as fully inclusive, the classic four-letter LGBT acronym has become internationally synonymous with the queer community. . A rainbow flag used in a recent "Color Fun" function on China's widespread QQ instant messaging software is prompting wide discussion on China's internet, with many seeing it as a tacit sign of aid for gays, lesbians and transgender individuals in the country.
The new function, crafted for QQ users on the Apple Watch, allows them to connect with those who coincidently choose the equal color from the 11 ones to represent their mood for the sunlight, Tencent, the software's publisher, told the Global Times.

The use of the rainbow flag in a social networking software program has drawn attention from Net users' and media outlets, with some calling it the first time a primary tech company has recognized gay users with its software.

October is LGBT History Month. Or, as some might speak, LGBTQ History Month. Or even LGBTQIA+ History Month.
The terms for the collective of people that encompasses people who are queer woman , gay, bisexual, transgender, lgbtq+, intersex, and asexual are as broad as that community itself: As society’s understanding, recognition, and inclusion of diverse sexual identities and gender expressions has grown, so has its acronym.

How lesbianism got its name
Out of all the letters in the acronym LGBTQ, the L was the first to come into existence. For centuries, the word had been connected with the works of Sappho, an ancient Greek woman from the island of Lesbos who wrote poems about same-gender passion.
